18‑year‑old Maxim Alechko from Chita signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense just two days after turning 18. He had hoped to avoid front‑line service, but was promised a role at a checkpoint. Within weeks he was sent to the front for a motorcycle assault. After a brief training, his group was ambushed; one comrade died and the rest were taken prisoner the next morning. Maxim was severely wounded, but Ukrainian forces treated him and evacuated him. Irina Krynina met him in the POW camp, and he asked for help contacting his family. He hopes to hear their voices when the "Our Exit" movement visits the camp. After his release, he plans to study and never return to war.
