Bridge collapses in China’s Guizhou Province after heavy rains trigger landslides

A bridge in China’s Guizhou Province partially collapsed after days of torrential rain, prompting landslides and triggering a dramatic rescue operation, authorities said on Tuesday, June 24. The incident occurred on the Houzi River Bridge along the G76 Xiarong Expressway Gedu Line, which connects Guangxi and Guizhou’s Duyun region. Footage released by China Fire and local media shows the aftermath, including a truck cabin left dangling precariously from the edge of the broken bridge. A man trapped inside was rescued after emergency crews rushed to the scene. In the video, bystanders can be heard yelling to the stranded driver: “You are lucky! It’s dangerous! You can only wait for the fire department to come! There is no signal!” According to Guizhou Fire, no casualties were reported, and the rescue was successful. Authorities had issued a Level IV flood emergency response — the lowest on China’s four-tier alert system — after heavy rainfall began affecting the area on June 23.
