In recent years, model railway layouts based on Norwegian landscapes have frequently been presented at European model railway exhibitions. Some of those model railroad layouts focus on replicas of realistic railway stations of the famous Flåm Line, the Bergen Line, or the Nordland Line, while others highlight scale models of Norwegian locomotives and trains. Without a doubt, all of those are works of art in rail transport modeling. Model railroader Hans Peters and the members of the model railroading club “Modelspoorteam de Maaslijn” have built a Norwegian model train layout that is extremely beautiful and very realistic. The layout depicts two tourist attractions: the “Hell Stasjon” with a branch line to Meråkerbanen and the point where the Nordland Line crosses the Arctic Circle. It shows the transition from the rugged Arctic landscape in the north to the green landscapes in the south along the Nordland Line, with a railway bridge over a river symbolizing the connection between the two sites. The miniature world includes a small harbour, several boathouses, a farm shop, a railway station, and a locomotive shed with a turntable, all built almost entirely by hand over a construction period of 30 months. The layout measures 6.0 m in length and 1.0 m in depth, and its hidden fiddle yard at the rear contains seven tracks, providing a great variety of Norwegian model train sets. Locomotives and trains are manufactured by Norsk Modelljernbane, the largest Scandinavian model train manufacturer, and the rolling stock displayed represents all that has run on the Nordland Line since 1947.
