Several beaches in southeast Spain’s Valencia region were closed after mysterious white particles, resembling plastic pellets, washed ashore. Authorities in Guardamar de la Safor cited a possible marine spill and urged the public to avoid swimming. The substance, found near the mouth of the Serpis River, may have an inland origin. Environmental samples have been collected for testing, and officials are working to determine the material’s identity and potential risks, CBS News has reported. The incident affected beaches just north of popular tourist areas along the Costa Blanca.
