According to one of the ancient Slavic calendars, this period marks the Day of Great Rest, known as Ignatij by folk tradition. On this day people honored their family homes, which were seen as symbols of family and guardians of tradition. Women prepared the house for Christmas, while youth formed Christmas squads for joyful caroling and made various festive gear. The day was also called the Apple Day and the Prophetic Festival of the Twelve Elders, and its evening was considered a wonderful time for reflection and celebration.
