Cops race into suspicious Townsville fire in daring rescue

Police have released a report of a rescue at a unit fire in West End on July 3. About 9:05 pm, police and emergency services were called to Percy Street after reports that several units were on fire. Upon arrival, officers found a unit well alight that had spread to a second unit. They heard a woman screaming, who was trapped in the second unit, and forcibly entered to extract the 54‑year‑old West End resident. She was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Townsville University Hospital. The officers sustained minor smoke inhalation, were treated at the same hospital, and have since been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
