Back in 2013, I had the privilege of witnessing the magic of The Aeolians of Oakwood University performing live in London, an experience that changed the course of my life forever. After the concert, I met their conductor, Jason Max Ferdinand, and vowed to one day write a piece for them to sing. Five years later, while working on my Djesse album series, I felt the moment was right to bring that promise to life. I booked a recording session with Jason and the choir at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, and composed ‘World O World’ the day before I flew from London to meet them. The 12‑hour session that followed became one of the defining musical moments of my life, and it was the first time I’d ever conducted a group of singers—a role I have since embraced extensively.
