I bought an apartment on the 32nd floor with a panoramic window. In winter it turned into an icy trap. The balcony became a freezing chamber, the glass constantly iced over and could not be opened. I tried to force the door, and the frame shook, giving me a terrifying fear of heights. The window acted like a giant cold bridge, and even with the heating at maximum, the temperature near the glass was 5–7 °C lower, causing heat to escape and the heating bill to skyrocket. The temperature differential also created a huge stress on the glass, and a single wrong move could cause cracks, turning the view into a web of fissures and a huge replacement cost. The panoramic window also exposed everything on the balcony to the whole neighborhood, and I had to watch the same clutter on the balconies opposite, erasing privacy. In short, panoramic windows are a summer luxury that turns into a winter torment, with constant condensation battles, astronomical bills, structural risks, and a life in a fishbowl for the whole city.
