Karthikeyan, a photographer‑editor at the Indian Express, meets Chitra, a bank employee, while she opens a bank account in Navi Mumbai. They cross paths again on a train, where Karthikeyan offers his seat but Chitra declines. During a train strike he invites her to travel by auto to save money, but she refuses. After a tense exchange, Karthikeyan explains that he only approached her because they are from the same area, and he vows never to speak to her again. A few days later, Chitra voluntarily talks to him, and he accompanies her to a police station to recover her stolen handbag. He then invites her to his home to meet his parents. Karthikeyan’s parents welcome Chitra and wish for her to marry him. When Karthikeyan explains that his wife, Jothika, died in a train accident, he learns that Chitra’s husband, Srikanth, also perished in the same tragedy. Chitra had adopted a boy named Shiva in accordance with her husband’s wish. Karthikeyan’s parents hope the two families will unite.
