Vietnam evacuated tens of thousands, shut schools, and closed airports as Typhoon Kajiki — the strongest storm to hit the country this year — approached landfall Monday with winds up to 166 kph (103 mph). Authorities warned of destructive winds, storm surges, flash floods, and landslides, particularly in low‑lying coastal areas. More than 40,000 people had already been moved to safety, with plans to evacuate nearly 600,000 across several provinces. Airports and schools were closed, flights canceled, and military forces mobilized for rescue operations, CNN has reported. Kajiki, expected to weaken after landfall in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, had already battered China’s Hainan island with heavy rain and strong winds.
