From 35 years ago tonight, BBC Two closed down with the final episode of The Spiral Staircase, followed by an electronic slide titled Spellbound and a promo for Saturday. At 01:18am the closing announcement was made, after which the screen went black and silence followed. The signal from the studio to the transmitter was cut at 5:45, and the transmitter was shut down at 12:02.
