Ai Xiaoming’s documentary "Zhongyuan Jishi" commemorates Dr. Gao Yaojie, who uncovered a hidden epidemic caused by the plasma economy in Henan. The film follows Gao’s discovery of the truth, his continued advocacy for families affected by transfusion infections after the loss of his husband in 2006, and the personal struggles that stemmed from his experiences during the Cultural Revolution. It also highlights the tragic death of a young girl, Zhang Jingya, in April 2007.
