Eguisheim is a picturesque medieval village located about 7 km from Colmar in the heart of Alsace, nestled at the foot of the Vosges. The town is built in concentric rings around the Château Saint‑Léon, offering a stroll through cobblestone lanes lined with colorful timber‑framed houses, several fountains, and the 13th‑century St‑Pierre church. The castle, dating from the 7th to 11th centuries, houses a reliquary chapel dedicated to Saint Léon IX, a pope born in Eguisheim in 1002. The former medieval walls, removed in the 19th century, once surrounded the village, and today visitors can walk the circular lanes that once formed the fortifications. Eguisheim is renowned for its exceptional wines and lies on the famous Alsace Wine Route, a scenic itinerary that traverses the region’s most celebrated terroirs. In this video, a white stork is seen nesting on the church roof, a common sight on the village’s rooftops during spring and summer.
