Images of some of the 57 Colombian soldiers detained by residents in the troubled Micay Canyon, a southwestern region dominated by guerrilla groups and deeply entrenched in cocaine production. The soldiers, still in uniform, are seen waiting silently in a rain-soaked courtyard. President Gustavo Petro, who launched a military offensive in 2024 to retake control of the region, has so far made little progress in weakening the grip of armed groups.
