Jay and the Americans - Come A Little Bit Closer (Shindig - Oct 21, 1964)

Jay and the Americans, formed in the early 1960s, rose to prominence with hits such as "She Cried" (1962) and "Only in America" (1963). Their breakthrough came with "Come a Little Bit Closer" in 1964, followed by "Cara Mia" in 1965. The group released the album "Sands of Time" in 1968, featuring the chart‑topping single "This Magic Moment" in January 1969, and later "Walkin' in the Rain" in 1970. After a brief split in 1973, the band members pursued solo projects, with Jay Black continuing to perform into the 1980s and beyond. In the 1990s and 2000s, former members reunited for special performances, including a PBS special in 2001. In 2006 Jay Black filed for bankruptcy, leading to a transfer of ownership to former bandmates. The group's legacy remains in the pop‑rock canon.
