Welcome to another Shelter Builds series! In this four-part series, we're raising a 24' x 36' timber frame forever home for our incredible client, Mary. This frame was designed specifically for its beauty and functionality. Over the course of these episodes, you'll see us build the first-floor platform, install the timber frame featuring a stunning hammer beam truss, install the gypsum (drywall), and complete the SIP shell, wall, and roof system. Join us for many twists and turns, a hint of drama, and beautiful Douglas fir joinery as we present: Shelter Builds a Douglas Fir Forever Home! In episode one of the series, we arrive at the site and immediately get to work framing the first-floor platform. This step is critical as it serves as the foundation for all our subsequent work. We install the metal I-joists that run through the basement, along with all the engineered I-joists and Advantech sheathing that make up the first-floor platform—and it all needs to be perfectly square! While this is happening, a smaller crew begins building bents on the side. By the end of the day, we've raised two bents, decked over the second floor, and installed several purlins in the rafter system. Join us in the next episode as we fully assemble the hammer beam truss and complete raising the frame! 0:00 Project Overview 1:07 First Floor Platform Prep 3:00 Bent Assembly 7:41 Daylight Basement Framing 11:24 First Floor Platform 12:56 PP&B Online Course Ad 13:27 Frame Raising 15:45 King Post Rafter Assembly 18:14 Rafter Raising 21:25 Outro
