Český Krumlov is a historic town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, renowned for its well‑preserved Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. The town’s center, including the Český Krumlov Castle complex, is protected as an urban monument reservation and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. The area has been inhabited since the Older Stone Age, with evidence of Bronze Age, Celtic, and early Slavic settlements. The castle was founded shortly before 1250 by the Vítkovci family, and the town was established in two stages: the lower part, Latrán, and the newer Old Town. Over the centuries, the Rosenberg family played a pivotal role, expanding the estate and promoting trade and crafts. The town reached its peak prosperity in the 15th century under Oldřich II of Rosenberg, and later, in the late 16th century, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style.
