Scores of Indian opposition lawmakers – including Akhilesh Yadav, Derek O’Brien and Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s main rival – are detained after police block their march to the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi. The protest, led by opposition parties, follows Gandhi’s accusation that the commission tampered with voter data to help Modi’s party win the 2024 elections and targets the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar ahead of state polls.
