Kaysersberg, formerly a French commune in the Haut‑Rhin department of the Grand Est region, became a new municipality on 1 January 2016. Located in the historic and cultural heart of Alsace, it is known for its medieval architecture, half‑timbered houses, Romanesque church, and frescoes by Moris Denis. The town’s strategic position on the Col du Bonhomme made it a key transit point between Upper Alsace and Lorraine since Roman times. A fortress was built around 1218, and the town flourished in the 14th–15th centuries with weekly markets and wine production that reached the Holy Roman Empire. After suffering during the Thirty Years’ War, it revived in the 18th century. In the 19th century, textile industry grew, and the town was partially damaged in World War II.
