In this lecture we cover the physical layer of computer networks, including the stages of data transmission over physical media, physical and logical encoding, line parameters that affect transmission and speed, the signal frequency range, amplitude‑frequency response, bandwidth, why signal distortion during transmission is normal, how logical coding increases data volume and transmission speed, the concept of SCS, various cable types, twisted‑pair categories, patch panels, splices, adapters, cable system standards, and design considerations.
