Bionic and the Wires use bio‑electrical signals from plants and fungi to control musical instruments in this unique performance filmed at Manchester's Boiler House. All the performance is improvised; we practice with the plants but are never quite sure they will cooperate. The custom‑built bionic arms and sensors translate the natural, unseen rhythms of living organisms into atmospheric soundscapes and botanical beats. The grey oyster mushroom is said to 'speak' up to 50 words, triggered by its own bioelectrical pulses, suggesting a form of communication that a 2022 study found could form patterns resembling up to 50 words in a language. Thanks to Raoul‑Ross D'souza and Maria Fernanda Gomez for the videography. Part 2 is also available and Part 3 will be released soon.
