On July 5, 2022, Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires performed Mozart’s last piano concerto, K. 595, with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner at St Luke’s Church in London. The concerto, written in January 1791 after a three‑year pause, opens with a light‑footed Allegro, followed by a contemplative Larghetto, and concludes with a spirited Rondo, Allegro. Pires’s sensitive playing brings out the melancholic and delicate qualities of the work, while Gardiner’s interpretation highlights its lyrical depth. Mozart had begun the concerto in 1788, set it aside, and completed it in 1791, the same year he gave its first public performance at an academy in Vienna. The piece remains a testament to his artistic autonomy and the challenges he faced in the final years of his life. (00:00) I. Allegro (14:31) II. Larghetto (20:03) III. Rondo, Allegro
