Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GG Ver.): Part 1: Under Ground Zone

While the 8‑Bit version of Sonic 1 was made by Yuzo Koshiro's Ancient, this Game Gear version of Sonic 2 was developed by Aspect Co. The soundtrack was mainly composed by Sega's Naofumi Hayata and Masafumi Ogata, reminiscent of Sonic CD. It predates the Genesis version, making it the first game to introduce Tails, though his role is limited. The game plays like 8‑Bit Sonic 1 but lacks checkpoints, shields, bonus stages, and the spin dash. The first zone, Under Ground, features minecarts, lava, and soft walls; Chaos Emeralds are always in Act 2. Act 3 has no rings, making it unforgiving. The boss fight involves the robot Arijigoku Mecha, which Eggman uses to try to kill Sonic; bombs can damage the robot but not Sonic. The Game Gear version is harder due to a smaller screen and more random bomb trajectories. After defeating the robot, Eggman escapes, leaving Sonic to seek the remaining Chaos Emeralds.
