The trio moved down the catwalk in coordinated gold chaps and performed a medley of hits including ‘Lose My Breath’ and ‘Bootylicious.’ It was the first time the group had performed together since their cameo during Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella set. They also joined her for Renaissance track ‘Energy,’ participating in the now-ritualised “mute challenge” — the moment in the show when, following the lyric “Look around, everybody on mute,” tens of thousands of fans fall silent on cue. The Cowboy Carter tour, which began in April, was Beyoncé’s seventh solo tour and her first since 2023’s Renaissance World Tour. It followed the release of Cowboy Carter, a sprawling, elastic record that reimagined country music through a distinctly Black lens. The album — 27 tracks long and filled with references to classic country, gospel, folk, and psychedelic soul — was, in part, a response to the hostile reception Beyoncé received after performing ‘Daddy Lessons’ at the 2016 Country Music Awards. Some industry voices questioned her place in the genre, dismissing her as a “pop artist.” It is the first of Beyoncé’s albums to win Album of the Year at The Grammys. At the shows, fans leaned into the mythology — cowboy boots, fringe, Stetsons in every shade of rhinestone. Destiny’s Child, who formed in Houston in the early 1990s under the name Girl’s Tyme, released five albums before formally disbanding in 2006. In the years since, they’ve reunited only a handful of times, including at Beyoncé’s Super Bowl halftime show in 2013.
