The Bosley Locks are located on the Macclesfield Canal in Cheshire, near the village of Bosley. This picturesque flight of locks lies between the towns of Macclesfield and Congleton and is surrounded by the scenic countryside of the Cheshire Plain, with the Peak District National Park to the east. The Macclesfield Canal, including the Bosley Locks, was constructed between 1826 and 1831 during the height of the Industrial Revolution. It was designed by Thomas Telford, one of the greatest civil engineers of the era, in collaboration with William Crosley. The canal was built to serve as a transportation route for goods such as coal, stone, and textiles, linking industrial towns in Cheshire with the wider canal network. The Bosley Locks themselves are an engineering marvel, forming a flight of 12 locks that enable boats to ascend or descend a total of 118 feet (36 meters) over a relatively short distance.
