Breeding season for Kalij Pheasant around Mussoorie: Male struts its smart black and white plumage

During the breeding season around Mussoorie, a male Kalij Pheasant displays its striking black and white plumage and red lappet while walking among peony fields. The pair then climbs an oak tree to roost for the evening. The male’s bright white crest and fleshy red eye patches make it a striking sight, and it often sings trills and clicks as it ascends the tree.
