Death Stranding 2: How (and When) to Unlock Your First Vehicle

Death Stranding is known for all the walking and the treacherous terrain you have to navigate.

Death Stranding 2 is no different.

I think Kojima Productions even made the rocks a bit bumpier this time.

While walking is a wonderful way to get around, you'll need a vehicle to carry larger orders, packages that exceed the capacity of Sam's backpack, or just to make traveling a bit easier overall.

In this video, I'm going to show you where and when you can get your first vehicle in Death Stranding 2.

Deep into Chapter 1, after a melancholic conversation with Deadman and a brief interaction with a hologram version of Fragile, you'll finally unlock your first vehicle.

After finishing your call with Fragile and returning to the surface, you'll meet up with Alex at the former geophysicist research lab to receive your next order.

That's when he'll let you know that you can now fabricate Tricruisers.

To make a Tricruiser, head to the garage and select Fabricate a Vehicle.

Choose the Tricruiser,

Check that you have all the required components and then go ahead and build it.

While you're in the garage, you can also customize your tri-cruiser with different colors and decals.

If you don't want it anymore, you can recycle it too.

While the tri-cruiser should meet your needs for the first few hours of the game, it won't be long until you'll be itching for a vehicle that can carry a lot more goods.

This is where the pickup off-roader comes in.

The pickup off-roader becomes available after you complete delivery 13.

Fabricating it works the same way, just make sure you've got the right materials.

From making small deliveries to large ones, both the tri-cruiser and the pickup off-roader will be your best friend throughout Death Stranding 2.

The tri-cruiser is great for speed and quick deliveries, while the off-roader excels in delivering large shipments and shooting at enemies while on the road.

Yes, you heard me right, you can now blast through your enemies while driving through the open road, and even nab scattered packages found around the world.

This only applies to the pickup off-roader, where you can equip it with a sticky cannon, a heavy machine gun, or the chiral cannon.

Only two weapons can be attached at once, but there are six slots for other accessories like extra batteries.

The TriCruiser also has six slots for attachments, but if you use them up, you will be able to attach cargo to the side.

The TriCruiser is also exceptionally good at scaling mountains and hills, as the front wheels will convert into blades to cut through the pathways if the incline is too steep.

It's also important to be aware of your vehicle's weight and capacity limits.

If you have cargo that exceeds the capacity limit, you'll just be standing awkwardly outside at Tommy's Pizza thinking, where did I go wrong?

Not that that's ever happened to me.

If you're trying to figure out how much you can carry in your vehicles, pay attention to the capacity.

If you exceed the capacity limit, you can't get into either vehicles.

As for the weight limit, if your vehicle is too heavy, then it will drive slower.

Now a really cool feature of both the tri-cruiser and the off-roader is that as long as there's enough free capacity, Sam can jump into the driver's seat while carrying lots of cargo or even cargo with carriers attached, making for a headache-free time of having everything organized.

This is ideal for long distance trips that have you driving most of the way, but occasionally require you to get out to start walking.
