Here’s the start of the 4th Donkey Kong Country game, made 15 years after DKC3 by Retro Studios. In this Nintendo Switch version, I play in Modern Mode, which adds quality‑of‑life features like extra health hearts. The story begins with DK Island under attack by the Tiki Tak Tribe, led by the gigantic tiki spirit Tiki Tong. Tiki Tong sends his hypnotic minions to possess the island’s animals and steal its bananas. Diddy Kong notices the theft and sets off to recover the bananas, while a Tiki attempts to possess Donkey Kong but fails. DK, determined, punches the Tiki’s lights out and embarks on a quest to reclaim the Banana Horde. The Switch controls feel more natural than the Wii, with optional motion controls. DK can jump, roll, use a Hand Slap, and a new air‑blowing power to interact with the environment. Diddy, playable only as a second player, rides on DK’s back, provides extra hearts, and can use a Rocketbarrel Pack to let DK hover. Collecting KONG Letters and Puzzle Pieces is essential for completion; each level’s letters unlock an extra level, and gathering all puzzle pieces unlocks a new image in the gallery. Bonus Levels reward extra bananas, banana coins, and 1‑UP balloons, and the Goal Barrel offers additional bonuses when hit while displaying “DK.”
