(Latin Entomophthora muscae) is a well-studied species of entomopathogenic fungi that affects adult Diptera of certain families. Infection of flies is expressed in straightened legs, wings standing parallel to the body and a swollen abdomen. The intersegmental membranes of the swollen abdomen give a characteristic striped pattern. The disease is transmitted through direct contact of a healthy fly with an infected one or by accidental spore penetration.
