In the Pride Lands, Nala gives birth to a cub with a blind eye, and her mate Simba rejects her and blames her for it. Over the following months, Kiara is repeatedly verbally abused by her father, while Nala does her best to comfort her and they play together. One day, while Nala goes to a river to drink, she meets her childhood friend Scar. After discussing their situations, Nala confesses her troubles at home. Scar, moved by her story, offers to take care of her and Kiara. Nala accepts, and they agree to meet again the next morning. That morning, Scar meets Kiara and they bond immediately. Nala tells Scar that she does not want to leave the Pride Lands without informing Simba, and Scar agrees. Later that night, Nala and Scar tell Simba they are leaving, expecting him to be indifferent, but he refuses to let Nala go. Scar explains that he has no right to force Nala to stay, which enrages Simba, and the two lions fight. During the fight, Nala tries to help Scar and attacks Simba, but he overpowers her. Simba orders Scar and Kiara to leave and never return. Scar takes Kiara to his territory in the Outlands and makes her promise never to return to the Pride Lands. Later, Kiara meets Scar’s son Kovu, and they become friends.
