Description:

Shortly before 7 a.m. Friday, FBI agents and Montgomery County police arrived at former Trump national security advisor John Bolton’s Bethesda home, sealing off the street while an unmarked SUV parked outside. Police confirmed they were assisting the FBI. Bolton, who served as Trump’s third national security advisor from April 2018 to September 2019, became the subject of a Justice Department probe after publishing his 2020 memoir *The Room Where It Happened*, which officials alleged contained classified information. The Trump administration sought to block its release, seize proceeds, and even pursued potential criminal charges. While DOJ later dropped the case in 2021, the five-year statute of limitations for disclosing classified material remains in effect, The Bulwark has reported. The incident follows a long history of disputes between Bolton and Trump, including the loss of his security clearance and detail, despite Iranian threats against his life.
