Description:

India’s air accident investigation bureau's preliminary report into the Air India disaster has been published. It found that both fuel control switches were in the cut-off position – a step that turns off the engines – moments before the plane crashed. More than 270 people died in the disaster when the Boeing Dreamliner 787 crashed moments after take off from Ahmedabad in India heading from the UK’s Gatwick Airport. According to the report, the cockpit voice recording captures one pilot asking the other why he ‘did the cut-off’, to which the person replies that he didn’t. The recording doesn’t clarify who said what. The passenger jet came down in a densely‑populated area less than a minute after clearing the runway, causing devastation and many deaths on the ground.
