Reviews: I saw Fury of Achilles (1962) in my satellite TV guide and decided to watch it to see if it was better than the typical Italian films starring musclemen. Don't worry, it's really good. It's one of the best films of its kind I've ever seen. It's a surprisingly moving film, very enjoyable to watch and doesn't feel like it has a cardboard background. Throughout the film, the well-paced and convincing battle scenes are interspersed with many well-written dialogues between the main characters, conveying the deeply humanistic themes that permeate the Iliad. There are no vulgar scenes: the heroes show fear or nobility, while the kings betray their duties or come to their senses and do the right thing. All the main characters emerge as real human beings, with all the flaws and virtues that characterize humanity. The screenwriters got the tone right in many places. As for the cast, Gordon Mitchell is perfect in the role of Achilles and gives an excellent performance.
