It would seem that American and Japanese companies cannot possibly cooperate with the FSB. Nevertheless, they have common interests in the cigarette market. As Proekt discovered, Philip Morris and Japan Tobacco sell their products through structures that are connected not only with the FSB, but also personally with Nikolai Patrushev, the former director of the service and a longtime associate of Vladimir Putin. The main figures in this scheme are billionaires Igor Kesaev and Sergei Katsiev. They earn money from the sale of Western cigarettes and alcohol, and spend it on the maintenance of the FSB and weapons production.
