Today, we're going to be working our way up from the oldest all the way to the newest restaurant in our city, San Diego.
Starting with the Tivoli Bar, which was established in 1881.
You sure?
Says it right there.
Is it not 1881?
Established in 1885.
Wait, what?
Okay, I'm very conflicted right now.
We'll have to find out in there.
Wait, Jessica, pull out your phone really quick.
My phone?
Just really quick.
Did you know that when this restaurant was established, this wasn't a thing?
Oh, yeah.
So just throw it across the street.
Go.
Okay.
so one thing about this place if you look at tavoli backwards it's i love it oh my god i don't care i love it all right let's check out the tavoli bar and grill hey i was so interested by this place knowing that it was built in the 1800s our beer was shipped over in 1862 from boston no way so this is the authentic wood right there
This one.
Oh Wait, hold on.
This is insane.
What is this?
Don't say there's a cash register Wait, there's a slot machine.
Yeah, wait, it looks like a slot machine.
So what's the food situation here?
This is the menu right here.
Oh, yeah
Food menu just gets right to the point.
I'm gonna cut a burger in half for you guys, and I'm gonna cut a hot dog in half.
You guys can all share.
I love that.
Let's check out the place before the food comes.
1850, they built it, but the restaurant got established in 81, so not 85.
They gotta change that.
They gotta change that sign.
I'm sure they've upgraded stuff since the 1800s, except the bar itself.
It's identical to that photo and it's still here intact.
Everything's the same.
So guys, this was a little flyer back in 1913 and to stay the night at a hotel, it was $4 to $7 per week to stay in a hotel.
You can't even find that for an hour.
Even here it says their meals start at 15 cents.
This place has a lot of history to it.
I love it.
I always have to ask this at historic places.
Have you experienced any ghost activity here?
Well, that's what they say.
Not me.
Not you?
We have rooms up there.
There's 10 rooms up there.
Oh, above this place.
It's been up there forever, since day one.
Thank you, thank you.
Ooh, ooh, what do we start with?
Fry?
Okay, I'll do onion ring, you do regular.
I already know these are gonna burn my tongue.
They're already so hot.
Every place's ranch tastes different, so I'll be the judge of this one.
I'll do ketchup.
Cheersington.
I approve the ranch.
All right, we're going to taste test the hot dog.
But did you know that this place used to be a saloon back in the day?
Then the prohibition hit, which means it was illegal to sell alcohol.
But what they did here is they brought in a kitchen and that was their decoy to sell alcohol underground.
But it ended up turning into a bar and grill.
And here we are.
Here we are trying their hot dogs.
You can even see he said he buttered the buns and you could see it, bro.
Here we go.
Here we go.
I'm not really a huge fan of hot dogs, but with the buttered buns, it actually tastes so good.
And the relish.
The relish is really good.
Usually when you go to a bar and you just order finger foods, they'll rush it and just throw it out there.
It's not the best tasting, but I feel like he took his time with it, and it tastes really good.
You can tell it's good quality.
Burger time?
The burger.
If you guys know where that's from, let me know, because I forgot.
All right.
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
I knew he was going to dip it in ranch.
Come on, bro.
Cheers, me.
Cheers, gang.
The bun is like in and out buns, like crispy on the outside.
That's good.
This is a solid meal.
Coleslaw, baby.
Oh, he's going big spoon.
It's actually a fork.
All right, cheers.
Why do we have to cheers everything, bro?
okay it's pretty decent coleslaw creamy very creamy yeah i think kane's slaw is like a little bit better have you tried kfc coleslaw oh yeah kfc coleslaw is crazy hot dog nine out of ten i'm gonna say eight burger eight out of ten i'm gonna say nine out of ten all right springs nine point five out of ten ten of ten coleslaw i'm gonna say like a five out of ten i'll say five of ten overall experience how the place looks the service i'm gonna have to go with an eight point five out of ten i'm
I'm going to have to go with a nine.
I like the experience.
I like the vibe in here.
This is the oldest restaurant in San Diego, but the quality is top tier.
Should we move on?
Move on.
All right, we have made it to the next destination, Marine Room.
This was built in 1941 on the ocean.
The Kellogg's family actually opened the Marine Room when they bought all the land on La Jolla Beach and the Yacht Club.
After you, beautiful cameraman.
Whoa, this is insane.
Guys, I've actually tried getting a reservation here off camera so many times, and they're always so booked.
Feels like we're on like cruise ship dinner.
Wow.
When the currents are high, the water will come all the way to the window and splash as you're eating a nice steak.
We entered a different world here because everyone is in suits and tuxedos and like, we're just like this.
Yoga pants.
I feel a little out of place with what we're wearing here.
How's our apparel here?
Like, are we underdressed a little bit?
Like, are we supposed to come in like suits and ties?
I want to look as good as you.
Thank you very much.
Yeah, of course.
If you're comfortable, we're comfortable.
I love that.
Oh my gosh, it says welcome phase rug.
thank you so much dude you already know though once the menu looks like this the food is gonna hit established in 1941 and the seahorse symbol actually does mean something since 1941 the iconic seahorse symbol has been synonymous with impeccable cuisine beautiful panoramic views of the water and just fine dining in general all right guys we just placed the order for the food but you're steps away from the beach we gotta check it out in the restaurant no
we're on the beach hold on look at those pink skies let's just admire the view guys very blessed to be living in a beautiful city like san diego just looking at the marine room from here it looks like a regular house but they turned it into something like this okay so we got a little bit of soup delivered to our table coconut corn bisque i personally have never seen this you get one bite of soup i think it's actually like complimentary because we didn't order it so um let's give it a try
Wait, that's fire.
Coconut corn bisque, so good.
So good.
My mouth is watering right now, I'm not gonna lie.
Oh my gosh, this looks insane.
So chef, please walk us down.
So here we have some octopus with shihito.
Shishito.
Shishito peppers.
We got some Peruvian crudo.
We got a two pound lobster right here.
And look at this, the claws are ready for us.
okay all right and then we have our filet with bone marrow butter mashed potatoes and here we have a fig with prosciutto and ham and goat cheese i think we gotta just dig in i love seafood guys i'm a lobster kind of guy jessica you want to grab the other claw and i'll grab you this oh the butter come on bro cheers oh my god oh my god that's one of the best lobsters i've ever had in my life
Brian's about to scream to the chef right now.
This restaurant is too fancy to do the walk.
I was focused on the lobster, but let's grab this one right here.
Wow, Brian, I didn't know you knew how to use a knife.
Listen, I cook for Gordon Ramsay.
I have that under my belt.
Have you?
What was the response from Gordon Ramsay?
He spit out my food, okay?
I don't care.
Wait, actually, he spit it out.
Filet mignon.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Oh, so soft, perfectly cooked.
And look at the view, guys, while we're eating.
Damn, Brian's going in.
Guys, I'm hungry.
It's only the second place.
mmm compliments to the chef we'd be lying if we said we didn't have a fantastic time here along with the service along with the delicious food along with the view I genuinely think this is a 10 out of 10 guys the cool thing about this whole thing is like we're learning about the history of the place along with tasting the food and just enjoying ourselves for the day hey hope you guys are enjoying the video so far it's all a 10 out of 10 for me we were just about to head out and they came over and told us that they took care of our tab so sweet of
And they actually handed us some truffle chocolate.
Dude, this place is too fancy.
Top tier.
Oh, you already know, bro.
That looks so good.
Thank you to Dominic and everyone who's taking care of us tonight.
The chef for making the food, of course.
Now we're going to try the truffle chocolate.
Cheers.
okay that just adds to the experience thank you all right we are here at bali high which was built in 1954 and it's a polynesian cuisine i don't think i've ever tried polynesian food i haven't either this has been a staple in san diego for so many years where people from around the world come to enjoy the food and the beautiful views man look at this that's my city right there shout out san diego and i'm excited because the entire theme is tiki wait brian what is that you always have that on hand
to not just disrespect Air Up like that.
You've never heard of Air Up?
No.
You want to learn about it real quick?
Yes.
This is the easiest and more fun way of drinking water.
Do you like the taste of plain water?
Nah.
Same here.
This actually has been helping me drink more water every single day.
Really?
And as a lot of people know, water is important to the human body.
So what makes this special is that it has flavor pods, which I chose peach today.
When you take a sip like this...
tastes like water but to activate it you actually pull the pod up like that and now that the flavor pot is activated it tastes like peach flavored water way but you're just drinking plain water this pod tricks your brain into thinking that it's peach flavor and you can actually taste it exactly i actually brought you one so you could try what uh-huh thank you i got you lime flavor cheers
what the heck oh my god it worked and it actually works this is a perfect gift for the holiday season and you could save up to 30 off air ups holiday bundles only here for a limited time so click the link in the description get your air up and now let's enjoy some bali high
Polynesian stick chart.
Whoa.
I love places that you actually learn as you come to.
You know what I mean?
There's a lot of history here.
Oh, come on.
How did I not know this place existed?
This is beautiful.
This is crazy.
Hey, nice to meet you.
Larry.
Yo, where are we, dude?
Really see the plane taking off right there.
You're right next to the airport.
You're on the water.
You see the city.
He's vibing right there.
So his feet are in the water right now.
What?
And guys, we just noticed there's a dock here.
People in boats literally come park their boats and come have lunch or dinner here.
We got our drinks.
We got the cup of gold.
Who wants the pina colada?
I'll take that all day.
Yeah, let's go.
That's the best looking presentation ever.
Right?
I promise you I'm back in Hawaii right now.
Taste test, taste test.
Ready?
Yum.
This is pineapple, bro.
This is fresh.
Oh my gosh.
With the whipped cream.
You need to try this.
That tastes like all fresh juices.
What do you think I'm going to hit first?
The drink or the cherry?
The cherry.
Come on, bro.
Go to.
Pineapple with whipped cream.
That one's going to hit.
Thank you, bro.
Oh my gosh.
This might be my favorite place we've been to so far.
I want to start with the teriyaki steak.
Oh, saucy.
Cheers.
It was a bit chewy, but so damn good.
Very flavorful.
I really want to try the poke.
All right, cheers.
Wow.
I would come back just for that, and I would order 100 of those.
The poke is so good.
No, I'm going to go for the shrimp.
I'm going to dip it in here.
Coconut shrimp.
It has a kick to it.
Yeah.
I like that.
You're going to eat a rib with a fork?
I can make it work, okay?
Okay.
I love Cajun fries.
Definitely better than Popeye's.
It would be so hard to not give this entire experience a 10 of 10.
It's a solid 10.
0.1.
Oh, I like that.
Over 10?
I promise you, if you ever go to Hawaii, you're going to think of this place.
All right, we are bringing it to the 1970s here at the Old Town Mexican Cafe, where they actually make tortillas fresh daily.
As you can see, they're cooking it up in there.
And people actually claim... Whoa, that car is sick.
Nice.
People actually claim that they have the best tortillas in the world.
Oh, I'm excited.
but we're here in old town san diego where there are so many historical landmarks like across the street the freaking whaley house which i'm never stepping foot in old town has actually been here in san diego since the 1700s that's insane but hey i can go for some mexican right now come on i love this vibe you already know the food is gonna hit when it looks like this in here dude i love these right here the little paintings on the wall
Voted the best tortillas in San Diego since 1977.
Best Mexican food and best margaritas.
I'm actually excited for this.
My expectations are high.
All right, guys, we're going to go to the tortillera right now where the ladies are making the tacos.
Dude, it smells so good right now.
So you guys make them fresh every single day?
Every single day.
Our tortilla ladies do around 1,000 to 2,000 tortillas a day.
Hey, we got to give them a nice tip after this for sure.
that we've been over.
No way!
Wera!
Congrats!
Yeah!
Okay, chips and salsa, Mando, you already know.
Oh my God, so salty, but in a good way.
Oh shoot, there's a bird!
Hi, Boutique.
Okay, well, we're going to look through the menu.
I mean, I'm definitely ordering tacos so I can get that fresh tortilla.
Oh, my gosh.
Are you on Mexican Coke?
Yeah.
Oh, this is going to hit.
The ice in the cup?
Come on.
Oh, my.
I smell it.
Like, I actually just already smell it.
Is there anyone else that gets this excited over Coke?
Yeah, if it's Mexican Coke.
It just hits different.
It really does.
You guys order?
I'm going to go to the Whaley house real quick.
All right, bye.
Wow.
Wait, that looks insane.
Street taco.
Dang, that looks fire.
We have the fresh tortillas here from the ladies that were making them.
I cannot wait to try this.
This is like the main thing everyone's been talking about.
And I mean, mix it with all this.
Oh my.
They smell so good.
I don't know if I'm weird, but I love eating tortilla on its own.
Oh my gosh.
Really?
This is actually insane.
Best in the world?
I think so.
The only reason Jessica's here right now is so she can make my burrito because I actually don't know how.
Okay, good.
Frijoles.
Gracias.
Be generous with the rice.
I'm going in for a second scoop.
Ryan will assemble his own meat.
Oh.
Damn, that looks good.
This actually looks bomb.
Any other toppings you would like in there?
Let's grab some cilantro.
Okay.
Is there salsa?
A little more?
A little more.
He needs one of these.
Limon.
Oh, hell yeah.
Now I roll it up for you, yeah?
Yay.
Hold up.
Thank you, Jess.
Oh my God.
Hi.
Pre-walk, I met a fan.
I'm gonna walk.
Yeah, yeah, let's do it.
Oh, a picture with a fan mid-walk.
All right, thank you so much.
I love that.
That was the best bite I think I've ever taken.
Best Mexican food.
It's fire.
Oh my God.
Guys, I have the mic on.
This looks insane.
Yeah, this does look insane to everyone else watching us right now.
ASMR into my mic.
Whoa.
I know what you're saying.
It's one of the best.
Top five.
Chipotle is a little above.
Okay, okay.
Get him out.
I'm saying overall rating, food, service, restaurant vibes, everything.
It's a 10 out of 10.
It's a 10 out of 10.
100%.
You can't rate this any lower than a 10.
Shout out to all the Hispanic people who watch my videos.
I freaking love you guys.
Come on, much love.
The first two ladies that were making the tortillas had left.
We're going to just throw this in the tip jar.
The manager said he's going to split it between all the tortilla ladies, so...
for all their hard work.
Appreciate you.
Of course, man.
Have a great one, okay?
All right, and for the newest spot in San Diego that just opened up about 10 days ago.
On what day?
My birthday!
This has to be a 10 out of 10 or I'll be disappointed.
It is an Italian spot.
We haven't had Italian today.
That's exciting.
This building is so new that it actually doesn't even have a sign outside.
It's a little hole in the wall.
We'll check out the inside and see what a restaurant that opened 10 days ago looks like.
That authentic Italian vibe.
There's some espresso machine right there.
Here we have Elvira menu 2024.
It's 2023.
We're a month early, so we're in the future right now.
I'm a sucker for Italian food, so.
Me too.
I'm definitely going to be a good critic here.
I always do this at new restaurants, just recommendations.
Yeah, what's the most popular?
All right, we just got our food.
We got a four cheese pizza.
And what did you get?
Rigatoni pizza.
carbonara okay it smells so good every place we've gone to today had a very different vibe like right now it feels like we're in italy i know we said this was an italian restaurant but i stand corrected because every food here is actually roman inspired this is a roman dish the four cheese pizza roman dish yeah i mean i personally thought walking into this was full italian they said that they have a sister restaurant that actually specializes in italian food and this is more roman but i'm excited to
okay i'm cutting the pizza last meal of the day guys we've been eating all day but can't go wrong with some pizza why are you looking at me like i'm doing something wrong cracks me up how's this look at him pork in the crust okay okay relax there we go got it i'm not cheersing you either i need you to try that that sauce is so good this is really good too i have to go for another bite
I love cheese, bro.
He keeps going for another bite when I'm trying to feed him a perfect bite right here.
Well, that's how you know it's good, okay?
With the crispy bacon?
Okay, that's pretty good.
I'm more of a pizza kind of guy, so I wouldn't order that.
I think the pizza here is fire.
I think 9 out of 10 on the pizza.
I'm gonna go 8.5.
That's a high rating.
I think the vibe is sick.
When we first walked in, it felt like someone's home.
I feel like we've been to a few restaurants today that was all homey vibes.
The Mexican food restaurant, Marine Room, and this.
I would say Tivoli, like there was like rooms above it.
So it's like everything was like homey vibes today, which was dope.
All right, guys, we started in the 1800s and worked our way up to a restaurant that literally opened two weeks ago.
Super, super fun day, guys.
Honestly, I enjoyed all the restaurants.
Hope you guys have a fantastic rest of your day.
Make sure you drop a like.
Hit that subscribe button.
We'll see you all with the next vid.
