I Visited 50 States in 50 Days - Day 14

Good morning.

It is day 14 of visiting all 50 states in 50 days.

We are currently in Mississippi in a beach house.

We had such a fun day yesterday in Mississippi, and today we head to another state and another Airbnb.

Here's what we did this morning in Mississippi.

First things first, I brushed my teeth.

Next, I made some coffee, poured it into a mug, drank it on the balcony.

Then I got partially dressed, like halfway, halfway dressed.

Then we actually left the Airbnb.

Why, you ask?

To go to the local grocery store.

We picked up some breakfast supplies, eggs, toast, jelly, things of such.

Then we cooked breakfast in the gorgeous kitchen, shared a lovely meal, and I rode the electric.

Of course, of course I did.

And now here we are, ready to go to the next state.

But first, we need to update our coolest house in America ranking.

We're giving this trophy to the Airbnb host for the coolest house, in our opinion.

So far, we've had the opportunity to stay in some really cool Airbnbs.

This list is getting very competitive.

Hailey and I are both gonna say our ranking for the Mississippi Coastal Retreat on three.

One, two, three, 11.

Oh.

Earth House Retreat above it?

Yeah.

Yeah, it is cooler, huh?

Yeah.

Okay, 11.

The Mississippi Airbnb is ranked 11.

All right.

I actually love how close we were on that.

I mean, there's a lot of Airbnbs here.

Just to reiterate, it's not about the comfiest and the coziest, which this would rank maybe top five, at least.

This is about coolest.

And this is also very cool.

It's just we stayed in two bunkers so far.

Coolest also embodies most unique, I think.

But now we're going to the next Airbnb.

It's time for the game plan.

I'll be the first to admit it.

The last couple of states have been easy.

And after a bunch of long drives, it's kind of nice.

Hailey, the next state that we're going to is Alabama.

Have you been to Alabama?

I've been to Alabama once, and I saw a baby shark in the water.

And I'll give you more information later, but the next Airbnb that we're going to is quite literally a castle.

If you're like me, you're like, there's a castle in Alabama?

It's very fun.

My fantasy book dreams.

This isn't one of our longer drives, which is actually really nice because we had a lot of states in a row that were very long.

We kind of need to recover to prepare for the rest of this 50 state series.

We're going to a cute little town called Fairhope, Alabama.

And in this town is actually a bookshop that someone recommended to me and said was really cute and cool.

Haley loves to read.

She loves bookstores.

She tries to go to bookstores wherever we go.

I think it's about time we make a stop.

Yes, please.

You can't go on a 50-day road trip and not stop at a little local bookstore.

Before we leave the state of Mississippi, I gotta go do a Joyride run.

There's a Target along our route to Alabama, so I'll stop there.

So far, Oklahoma is the only state I haven't been able to get Joyride.

So then we moved to Hawaii, which I absolutely loved.

And I miss it a lot.

It's possible.

We did it when we flew from Hawaii.

We landed in Los Angeles in California.

We bought a vehicle and we just drove.

Like, I got to tell the world this.

I would say that my motivation would be my kids.

Like, they're hilarious and they're fun.

My kids and my dogs, you know?

Also, we're driving on Battleship Parkway right now, and there was a literal battleship in the water.

We have arrived to the Storybook Castle in Alabama.

There's nothing cooler than a storybook house with a storm rolling in.

There is truly a storm brewing around us right now.

Loud thunder.

Haven't seen any lightning yet, but you know what they say.

There's never thunder without the light.

This property is nothing short of magical.

Talk about a storybook.

I feel like I'm in a fantasy land.

This is like Shrek adjacent.

It has been absolutely storming outside since we walked into the Airbnb.

I really want to walk around the property because this entire plot of land has buildings like this one on it.

It's really an experience to be able to walk around.

So I might just go outside with an umbrella and risk it all just to see.

I know one thing about Alabama in a storm.

Them mosquitoes are about to be crazy.

man this airbnb is special when you book this airbnb you get a message from the host and she's just talking about how this castle that we're in right now her dad started building it in 1946 and she just talks about each one of these structures and how much effort's gone into them all the different people involved in making it come to life over decades and for me this is the type of stuff i was excited for when i started booking these airbnbs for this adventure

I just can't believe we're allowed to stay here tonight.

It is so special, so cool, frankly magical.

It looks like the rain has stopped, which is perfect because I still need to run.

So far, so good on my run streak in every state in the US.

It's gonna happen no matter what.
