India says changed tactics worked well in conflict with Pakistan #breakingnews #india #pakistan #indiapakistan #conflict India switched tactics after initial air losses in the first day of its three-day May conflict with Pakistan, India's chief of defense staff said in an interview on Saturday (May 31) on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore. A ceasefire was declared after intense conflict involving jets and missiles. Sean Hogan has more. India believes switching tactics on the first day of conflict with Pakistan earlier this month established a decisive advantage, before the neighbors announced a ceasefire three days later, India's highest ranking general said on Saturday. The heaviest fighting in decades between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan was sparked by an April 22 attack in Indian Kashmir that killed 26 people, most of them tourists. New Delhi blamed the incident on, quote, "terrorists" backed by Pakistan, a charge denied by Islamabad. In response on May 7th, India struck what it called "terrorist infrastructure" sites across the border. Pakistan has said it downed six Indian planes. General Anil Chauhan, India's chief of defense staff, confirmed India suffered initial losses in the air but refused to give specifics. ''So we rectified the tactics and then went back on seventh, eighth and 10th, and 10th in large numbers, to hit their bases deep inside Pakistan, penetrated all their defenses with impunity, with scattered opposition strikes.'' The Pakistan military says India did not fly its fighter jets again in the conflict. Despite media reports bases near Pakistan's nuclear facilities were struck, Chauhan and Pakistan's chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, have both said nuclear weapons were never considered. “There’s a lot of space before that nuclear threshold is, you know, crossed, a lot of signaling before that. I think nothing like that happened. Over a period of time, as I said in a couple of other meetings, that there’s a lot of space for conventional operations, which has been created, and this will be the new norm.” He added while hostilities had ceased, the Indian government would "respond precisely and decisively should there be any further terror attacks emanating from Pakistan."
