Description:

What happens to our phones when we replace them? Where do the computers, TVs, and household appliances we stop using actually end up? To answer these questions, we went to Agbogbloshie, in Ghana, the largest electronic waste dump on the planet. A place that looks like something out of a dystopian film, but is all too real. Here, every day, thousands of men, women, and children live, and survive, by dismantling electronic waste from the West with their bare hands. No protection. No alternatives. Breathing toxic smoke, walking over burnt plastic, searching for scraps of metal to sell for a few coins. But this isn’t just a story about pollution. It’s a story of injustice, of blind consumption, and of a global system that shifts its burden onto the shoulders of the most vulnerable. Together with ActionAid, which has been working in Ghana for years to build schools and offer a future to hundreds of children, I’ll take you inside this reality. To show not only the problem but also the possibility of change. The goal is simple yet powerful: To sponsor as many children as possible and give them back a right that should be guaranteed everywhere the right to a safe childhood, a school desk, and a dream.
