Description:

The King will dedicate a memorial to LGBT military personnel who suffered for years under homophobic laws. Charles is expected to unveil a sculpture and lay a bouquet of flowers at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on Monday, after an unrelated visit to Lichfield Cathedral in the morning. The memorial is intended to mark the historical harms faced by LGBT veterans because of legislation banning homosexuality in the armed forces. Although the Sexual Offences Act 1967 partially decriminalised male homosexual relationships in England and Wales, this ban remained in place for military personnel until 2000.
