Bionic and the Wires use bio-electrical signals from plants and fungi to control musical instruments in this unique performance filmed at Manchester's Boiler House. All the performance is improvised. We do practice with the plants but we're never quite sure they're going to do. The custom-built bionic arms and sensors translate the natural, unseen rhythms of living organisms into atmospheric soundscapes and botanical beats. The grey oyster mushroom is 'speaking' 50 words triggered by it's own bioelectrical pulses. Mushrooms may possess a form of communication, with a 2022 study suggesting they use electrical impulses to form patterns resembling up to 50 "words" in a language. Thanks to Raoul-Ross D'souza and Maria Fernanda Gomez for the videography. Part 2 also available and Part 3 released soon.
