Man shot and killed by federal agent in Minneapolis identified, as more protests break out

Videos emerged Saturday showing the fatal shooting of Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti by a Border Patrol agent. Democratic leaders in Minnesota said the footage indicated the encounter was the result of untrained federal officers overreacting, while the Trump administration claimed Pretti provoked the violence. The shooting, which occurred at around 9 a.m. after a roughly 30‑second scuffle, was the second fatal incident involving federal immigration authorities in Minneapolis this month; the first, on Jan. 7, involved Renee Good. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who watched one of the videos, said he saw more than six masked agents pummeling a constituent before shooting him to death, and has described the city as being invaded by the administration’s largest immigration crackdown, dubbed Operation Metro Surge.
