Marsh DJ Set - Live From Gjipe, Albania

They say preparation is everything, unless you bring a mouse to a DJ booth. Months of planning, hours of edits… and five minutes before my Gjipe set, I realised my USB was still at the hotel. A crazy day. I spent so long preparing these mixes, digging through Beatport, promos, demos, and other people’s mixes to find hidden gems. By the time I recorded, I had edited many of the tracks and tested every transition multiple times. For Gjipe, I had a full three-hour set ready, still tweaking that very morning to make it perfect. When I arrived, the weather was incredible and my spirits were high. Five minutes before, I went to plug in my USB… only to realise, with horror, that it wasn’t in my bag. In the morning rush, I’d packed my Magic Mouse instead. Same shape, similar case, but not much use behind the decks! I’ve never done this before, and of course the one time it happened, I was a boat ride away from my hotel! Some of you probably saw the blood drain from my face. I told Mia to keep playing (she was smashing it to be fair!) while I sprinted back to the boat. The round trip took about 45 minutes, but I made it back with my USB ready to go. Then came plot twist number two: I finished my set at 6pm and was told I still had 30 minutes left. I’d gotten my set time wrong all along! Between rushing from breakfast, the boat rides, and the USB chaos, I never realised I wasn’t due to start until 3:30 (not 3:00) and finish at 6:30. In the end, maybe the chaos was a blessing. It forced me to think on my feet, play to the crowd, and select the strongest tracks from my setlist. It wasn’t the day I planned, but it became a set I’ll never forget and I hope it’s a blessing to you too.
