[33:12] Seq. 18 (Ending) Focusing more on gratuitous nudity than plot, 'Nuda per Satana is an Italian exploitation film written and directed by Luigi Batzella (1924-2008) who, usually under the alias Paolo Solvay, released numerous low-budget genre films during his career, though two of his films that stand out are the relatively well-made western 'God is my Colt .45 (1972) and 'The Devil's Wedding Night (1973), a horror co-directed with (an uncredited) Joe D'Amato (1936-1999). This cheap excursion into depravity stars Barbara Lay, Giuseppe Mattei, Gota Gobert (who appeared in several exploitation films), Iolanda Mascitti, Luigi Antonio Guerra (who appeared in over a hundred-and-forty films), Rita Calderoni (in a dual role), Renato Lupi (1920-2000), and film, stage, and television actor Stelio Candelli (1931-2017) also in a dual role. Full of erotic debauchery shown through slanted camera angles and jerky zooms and featuring a hilarious giant 'lust crazed' arachnid, the film can be dismissed as horrendous, yet it's almost impossible not to be struck by the surreal oddness that permeates it. The absurd plot hides a hallucinatory vision of reality that forces the protagonists (Rita Calderoni and Stelio Candelli) to confront their doubles, and where past and present are being manipulated by Satan (played by Giuseppe Mattei) himself as he attempts to claim their souls. Though the story doesn't always make sense and a few scenes are haphazardly put together, the film is compensated by Antonio Maccoppi's in-camera effects and an exceptional score which throws the listener into a shadowy world of pulsating synths, eerie melodies, and psychedelic atmospheres that reflect the film's delirious dream-like aura. Like other exploitation films of the era, this bizarre piece of Euro-sleaze is worth seeking out if one can find an uncut version. Marvelously composed and executed, the music packs in an array of beguiling arrangements with refined lounge vibes, disco-tinged exotica, soft jazz, and cues with wordless vocals from an unknown singer. Not only does the music play an active role in shaping the mood of the film but is a rare gem in the great ocean of Italian film scores and therefore a must for all genuine collectors. A highly versatile Italian composer and musician, Alberto B. Bembo (along with his brother Dario) played in various clubs in Milan during the late 1960's before joining (as a pianist and organist) the group that accompanied Italian singer Mina (celebrated for her contributions to pop music), who dominated the Italian music scene during the 1960's and 1970's. While hardly a household name, Baldan Bembo worked tirelessly for decades composing music for a plethora of films, many of which would now have been forgotten were it not for the captivating quality of his compositions. In addition to his film scores, he also released several library and stand-alone albums (usually under the names Blue Marvin and Shorty Baldan) as well as collaborating with other composers and singers, such as Augusto Martelli (1940-2014), Lucio Battisti (1943-1998), and Mia Martini (1947-1995). Some of his film scores include 'Enough with War... Let's make Love (1974), 'Nobody Move... this is a Robbery (1975), 'The Tiger that came from the River Kwai (1975), 'The Black Maid (1976), 'The Last Orgy of the Third Reich (1977), 'No to Violence (1977), 'Nuclear Alert (1978), and 'The Master of the World (1983).
