Reactivity of Alkali Metals with Water

Lithium, Sodium, and Potassium metals reacting with water to produce hydrogen gas, dissolved metal ions, hydroxide ions, and heat. Phenolphthalein indicator is added to visualize the change in pH from neutral to basic as the reaction proceeds. Explosions and fires ensue!
