Sunderdhunga Valley with ancient glacial moraine shelf with mud flutings: high altitude Uttarakhand

Sunderdhunga Valley, located in high‑altitude Uttarakhand, features an ancient glacial moraine shelf with mud flutings. Numerous tributary streams feed the main Sunderdhunga torrent, flowing past meadows and scree slopes as one approaches the campsite in the upper valley, visible from the air. The valley is flanked by peaks: Maiktoli to the right, with a ridge leading up to Sunderdhunga Khal, and Panwali Dwar to the left, also overlooking the Khal. The approach to Sunderdhunga Khal offers a view of a massive icefall below the col, with Maiktoli and Panwali Dwar peaks in the background.
