Everybody has an urge to build. Doing so builds competence in all areas of life. This documentary, shot and produced by Roland Halle and John Hoover, takes a look back at some of the original students who took Shelter Institute courses when we first opened in the early 1970s. These students wanted to take their lives into their own hands by building their homes. Today, roughly 200 in-person and several thousand online students a year are very similar in that, for one reason or another, they want to become competent. Whether it is in building, timber framing, or just doing, students of the Shelter Institute are doers, and we are so happy to be a small part of their lives.
