From mountain ranges with snow dusted peaks and the clear blue sea, the beautiful country of Greece boasts 13,000 km of shoreline. Today we look at Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, taking us from Lake Kerkini near the Bulgarian border, and onwards via Agia Eleni and Amphipolis to Thrace, finally ending at Dadaa and Soufli at the Turkish border. At Lake Kerkini, we’re met with water buffalo, which were on the brink of extinction here until Vasilios came along to ensure their continued existence. We also meet local chefs, as well as seeing the preparation for the Anastenaria festival, a traditional barefoot fire-walking ritual with dance performed in Northern Greece and Southern Bulgaria.
