Trump and Zelensky act friendly meeting amid peace talks

US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky appeared far friendlier than the previous meeting in February 2025. Trump expressed confidence that a deal would be reached to end the Russia‑Ukraine war, saying, “The war is going to end. When it ends, I can’t tell you, but the war is going to end, and this gentleman wants it to end, and Vladimir Putin wants it to end. I think the whole world is tired of it, and we’re going to get it ended.” Zelensky and a group of European leaders arrived in Washington facing increased pressure from Trump to reach a resolution more favorable to Moscow, after Trump and Putin met in Alaska. Trump was heard speaking on an active microphone to French President Emmanuel Macron, expressing his confidence in his talks with Vladimir Putin. He proposed a three‑way summit among Putin, Zelensky and himself aimed at reaching a peace deal, which Zelensky said he would support.
