TV Reporter mugged on camera just before going on air

A television camera captured the moment a would‑be thief on a motorbike tried to steal a cellphone from the hands of Brazilian television reporter Clara Nery in Rio de Janeiro, minutes before she went live on air. Footage captured by TV Band cameraman Leonardo Teixeira shows Nery checking her phone when the motorcyclist comes up from behind and grabs the device from her hands. However, the thief immediately dropped the device, allowing Nery to recover it from the ground. The attempted theft happened right outside TV Band’s offices in Botafogo, in southern Rio. “What a scare! We were getting ready to go live (…) in a place we consider safe in Botafogo,” Nery said. “In the video, you can see the moment he puts his hand on my phone and takes it from me. Luckily, I was holding on tightly,” she added.
