US democrats invoke rare law to force DOJ to release Epstein files

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that Democrats are using Section 2954, a century‑old rule that allows five members of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs to request information from a federal agency, to compel the Department of Justice and the FBI to release the full Jeffrey Epstein files. The request covers all documents, evidence and other materials related to the case of United States v. Jeffrey Epstein, while protecting victims’ private information. Schumer said the DOJ is expected to provide the requested information by August 15, and he criticized President Trump for failing to honor his promise of transparency.
